It only takes an hour to get to Lucca, and when we arrived we had a guided tour of the town. For those of you who don't know much about this little Italian town... It's is the birthplace of composer Giacomo Puccini, is enclosed by three sets of walls that were built over time to protect the city form potential threat from Pisa and Florence, and is known as the 'town of one hundred churches' because there are one hundred churches that lie inside the walls.
The tour was good! We walked through the main churches and monuments around the city and down the main street of shops. Lucca doesn't actually allow cars within the city walls, so you can walk down any street without the threat of crazy European motorists. After the tour we walked around to find a place for lunch and a bit of gelato. Hannah and I then walked the wall that surrounds the city, it's about a 2 and half mile loop. We got some beautiful pictures of the views that Lucca has to offer. We also ventured back down into the town to explore some of the Piazzas.
We left Lucca around 4:30 and made it back to campus around 6 after being dropped off at the Train Station.
It was such a beautiful day and I loved walking around the city and taking it all in, but it was absolutely exhausting! Lucca is a wonderful place to escape the craziness of the major cities.
