This week was just classes, nothing very exciting. Regularly we have classes from Monday to Thursday, but we also had class this Friday to act as a make up day for a Monday we will be missing in a few weeks due to Italian Holiday. Anywho, on with the recap!
Sorry if this too much of a play by play... I feel like I'm rambling on way too much. But I want you all to know what my typical week looks like even if my routine isn't actually quite set yet.
Monday:
I only have one class, Italian from 3 to 4, but I decided to wake up earlier, around 7:30 or 8, to go to the gym. After my workout I grabbed some breakfast. The Cafeteria here on campus has really limited hours (from 8 to 9:30) so if I actually want breakfast I have to wake up early. If I have to wake up for breakfast, I might as well work out too since I have so long until class starts! Eventually I made my way to the campus cafe/library to sit with my roommates/read/get ready for class.
I really don't have anything to say about my language class other than the fact that it is really unorganized and I'm the only student who has any background in Italian, so everyone else is quite frustrated because the professor isn't permitted to speak in English because it's an immersion course. I know enough to follow along though, so I am doing alright.
After class Hannah, Gabby and I went to the grocery store because we don't get lunch on out meal plan. It's easier and cheaper to buy groceries than to pay 5euro every day for lunch for food that isn't even that good.
Tuesday:
Renaissance History from 10:30-1:15.
I overslept AGAIN, which I literally can't believed happened. Rebeka woke me up, thank goodness, and I made it to class on time. But I was exhausted, the seats were uncomfortable and I could not focus one bit.
Once class was over, I met up with Rebeka and Hannah and we made our way to the Galleria Accademia and saw the David, along with some other Michelangelos. Cameras and phones are not really allowed in the Galleria but I snuck some pictures any way. The art was all so beautiful!
We shopped around for a little bit, stopping in to stores and such. It was also really rainy, and I got a picture of a rainbow over the religious center! It was awesome!
We also picked up some textbooks. Rebeka made her way back to campus, but Hannah and I stayed in town to meet up with a friend of Hannah's from home who is also studying here. Dinner was good, and we caught the bus back to campus.
Wednesday:
European Architecture from 10:30-1:15. Italian from 3-4.
The syllabus for my architecture class was seriously one of the scariest and most intimidating things I have ever seen in my life. But the class seems so interesting! We'll be taking a weekend trip to Rome to see the Vatican and the Forum in April. But as a part of the class we have to keep a sketch journal, sketching 2-5 monuments/landmarks/churches per week. I'm excited to get to know the city more but I literally can't draw to save my life so this is going to be really interesting.
Italian kind of drives me crazy. It's really nothing special.
Today was also the first day that the sun came out! It has been dreadfully dreary and rainy, but not today! It was beautiful outside.
Thursday:
Italy and Italians in English Literature. Italian from 3 to 4.
I have never liked English classes, I've avoided the past 2 and half years at Trinity. But I'm taking this one for Common Curriculum credit, and I'm kind of glad! There is a fair amount of reading, of course, but hardly any writing. THANK GOODNESS. We can do creative projects or presentations instead. It's a fabulous compromise, and I am finally going to read some classics that I've had my eye on for a while! Also my professor is adorable, and British.
Again, with Italian. Meh.
Friday:
Make Up day for some future Monday, so I only had Italian. Got up and worked out in the morning, had breakfast. Did laundry! Went to class, meh. I want to get in to the real conversational/real world stuff. I'm actually getting bored and it's only the first week!
I hung around in the evening, but then went with Hannah downtown to meet up with other girls from her home university who are here studying at NYU, but live in an apartment. We walked across the Arno to Gusta Pizza and then had gelato and Santa Trinata. OMNOM I literally thought I was about to burst. It was my first real meal splurge, and it was fantastic. We decided we're going to make this a weekly thing :)
On our way back to campus we got caught in a freaking torrential rainstorm. We were soaking wet in a matter of minutes (even in our raincoats and umbrellas) so Hannah and I took the bus back to campus instead of walking. I immediately jumped into my pj's and put on a movie.
Slept in, grabbed some breakfast. Weekend hours are slightly extended for the weekends, from 9 to 11, hoorah! Liz, Rebeka and I went in to town to get more textbooks and laundry detergent. Liz is also in my architecture class, and we stuck around and did some sketches that were our weekend homework assignment.
We got caught in a bit of rain we headed back on the bus. Once we got back we lounged and did homework. I watched a couple movies.
Here's my awful drawing of the Campanille (Duomo bell tower). Don't judge :/
That was my week! Just classes, a small venture to town here and there. This post also took me over an hour to put together, so i'm really going to try and be better about this.
I don't think I'll be posting any more play by plays, but this post is here just to give you a sense of my week in classes and such.
